David Gunning has extensive experience as a three-term DARPA program manager, where he managed a series of AI programs over three decades. These included the Explainable AI (XAI) program that he created and managed from its inception in 2016 and the Personalized Assistant that Learns (PAL) program from 2003-2008 that produced Siri. In between DARPA tours, Dave also managed AI research as technical manager at Facebook AI Research (FAIR), the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Vulcan Inc., Cycorp, and the Air Force Research Labs.
