Ahmad's City Hall Deputation Re: Israeli Apartheid Week.

"I am a third year York university student and will be speaking against the motion and would actually suggest that the council support Israeli Apartheid Weeks across the country instead of condemn them. Much of what I wanted to say has already been said by those who have spoken before me and since we are pressed for time I will keep it short. I would first like to address the former speaker who mentioned that the Students Against Israeli Apartheid were quote hunting down students, this is an absolute lie, no such incidents have ever occurred. Now, let's look at the definition of Apartheid defined by the united nations "inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group ... over another racial group ... and systematically oppressing them" now the question of whether Israel is guilty of the crime of Apartheid has been made sparklingly clear by the former speakers whether it's the Jewish only settlements, and roads, the military check points, the second class citizenship of Arab-Israelis, Israeli marriage law but the most stark example which I would like to highlight again is that off the settlements. Entire villages, homes, and schools, demolished to make room for posh Israeli neighbourhoods. Would we stand by and watch if Unionville high school was demolished to make room for foreign settlements? No we wouldn't but this is exactly what the Israeli government does and it's disgusting. And if my words mean nothing take the words of Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu who also label Israel as Apartheid state and who better than them to do so after having witnessed apartheid themselves in South Africa"
