Hello everyone!
Long time no see ( *・∀・)ノ゛
First and foremost, I'd like to thank Jnundead, VinLudens, and ESUG for giving me some inspiration for this mash-up/arrangement.
I broke my 2-week upload streak because I didn't have anything ready after Kigeki haha. As a result, I started learning an arrangement of Yakusoku I made a few months ago after I uploaded Kigeki.
Initially, I didn't really think the ED was anything special and preferred the OP instead. However, after listening to it a few more times, I started to like it a lot more. I especially like how the singer sings the lyrics with a lot of clarity such as the lines "kurushiku naru keto atatakai" at 1:13 and "kitzuita fuyu no osa da" at 1:21. That part was really fun to play on the grand piano since I could play around with the tone.
About this arrangement:
When I saw Jnundead's arrangement, I thought "hey, this looks pretty ok, maybe I can learn this in 2 weeks..." 1 month later and here we are (T⌓T). The hardest part of this piece was the three-hand at 1:52. This took forever to learn especially since the notes you have to accent are in the lower mids which is the worst range to voice. Everything there just sounds muffled.
Anyways, I took a lot of inspiration from Jnundead's arrangement and this is basically his one but modified in some areas.
Initially, I was just going to play his arrangement but I felt that some areas could be changed, here are a few:
(1) The original intro was just added so I could make the arrangement feel a bit more like my own
(2) The verse at 0:37 was altered to make the chords more accurate to the original. I also love how calm and music box-like it is.
(3) I strayed away from the original guitar accompaniment at 1:02 to make it flow better
The main reason I even started arranging this piece was because of 3:07. In my opinion, there were too many chords in the bridge part if I just directly converted the guitar solo to the piano so I broke them up to make it sound less muddy. I also have to thank VinLudens for giving me the idea to use his right-hand run at 3:27. Anything I tried just felt out of place so I'm really glad I found his video!
Finally, I used ESUG's intro for the ending at 4:33 to add a bit of variety but incorporated elements of Jnundead's arrangement by using some chromatics at the end with the Eb - E - F in the left hand.
Overall, I'm quite happy with this arrangement! I was really worried it would sound really muddy in the recording but it seems to be fine. I have another My Dress-up Darling arrangement that I made a while ago and am working on History Maker (and starting on Call of Silence) so I'll be uploading those soon =D
I hope to see you guys in 2 weeks •ᴗ•
P.S. I'm not sure why Horimiya would use a sad song - isn't it meant to be a happy relationship (at least in the anime...)?
