The Magalloway River's headwaters are located in the Boundary Mountains on the Quebec border, close to the Canadian border. The river begins as a twisting, tannic stained freestone river emerging from Moose Bog, flowing south for 30 miles through northwestern Maine and New Hampshire. It is interrupted by Parmachenee Lake and then by Aziscohos Lake, a narrow, 15-mile-long body of water. The river's headwaters are known for their wild and undammed conditions, making them a prime location for fly fishing enthusiasts.
Because this is a wild fishery that is dependent upon natural reproduction the small ponds and both the Big and Little Magalloway rivers are fly fishing only.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower has fished the Little Boy Falls on the Magalloway River with guided Don Cameron.
