If you want to play The One Like Elton John then this video is for YOU! This song is in a favorite key of mine Bb, and is for the most part a very learnable song for most players that have a good grasp of 3 note chords. The great thing about this song is how well it is written and doesn’t rely on a heavy amount of technical piano skills to make it sound great. That being said, if you are a more advanced player you can play this just like Elton with his unique licks and more florid style. I recommend starting off just learning the chords alone and playing them once per measure (or 4 beats). Move on to playing the chords on each beat, being aware of the fact that this is a ballad and a more delicate approach is needed. Once you are comfortable with that begin to implement the arpeggio like moment that is so characteristic of Elton. You will find this to be a great song to sit down and play for friends and family as well as a release from a stressful day. Have a great time learning this classic.
