A steam engine burns 1 tonne of coal every 40 miles, consumes 40 gallons of water every mile and 55 miles per hour is cruise speed. The rectangular shape tender is semi-permanently coupled to the steam locomotives. The tender holds 4,000 gallons of water and 6 tonnes of coal. The floor of the coal bunker on the water tank, slopes downwards toward the locomotive so the coal under gravity would move to the front. It takes 5 hours to fire and operate a steam locomotive from dead cold.
Engine № 131, Arrive from Limerick 10:30, Depart to Waterford 11:35 with carriages. Due to stop at Tipperary Town Station 11:50 to 12:05 to fill with water.
Engine № 85, Arrive from Mallow 11:02 with carriages, Depart to Dublin 11:27 without carriages.
Engines will swap at the Junction.
Steam locomotive № 131 was built in 1901 in Scotland, for the Great Northern Railway (Ireland). Pulling its coal car, seven Pullman coaches and a guard’s van at the back.
Steam locomotive № 85 was built in 1932 in Manchester, for the Great Northern Railway (Ireland).
