Welcome to my video where I show you a city tour in Zanzibar, a walk in the local market, and the local delicacies of Zanzibar. Thanks to its location on the East African coast and its fertile soil, Zanzibar has been known for its spice cultivation for centuries. Also known as the "Spice Island," Zanzibar cultivates many spices, including cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, and cardamom. These spices play a significant role in both Zanzibar's local cuisine and global trade. These spices, grown in Zanzibar, are used in cooking, adding a wonderful flavor to dishes. The local market in Zanzibar, called Darajani, is where you can shop for spices and other foods.
The Darajani Market (or Bazaar) is the main bazaar in Stone Town, Zanzibar.
The main structure of the market was built in 1904 by Bomanjee Maneckjee, for Sultan Ali bin Hamud. It was later extended and restored.
Darajani Bazaar is mainly a food market (seafood, meat, fruits, grains, spices), but there are also shops selling a number of different goods, from consumer electronics to clothing.At night, you can enjoy a wide variety of seafood and other dishes at the Forodhani area, located on the oceanfront in Zanzibar. The produce at the market is very tasty and fresh. To give information about Zanzibar street food, fish soup and Chapati you see in the video are 3000 tsh (1.1 USD), spicy teas are 1000 tsh (0.40 USD), food called Sambosa in Forodhani is 2000 tsh or 3000 tsh (0.80 USD or 1.1 USD), Octopuses found in Forodhani are worth 12,000 tsh (4.4 USD).
