A new study published in the British Medical Journal reveals that eating chips or French fries three times a week increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 20%. The risk rises to 27% if consumed five times a week.
Researchers analyzed data from over 205,000 U.S. health professionals spanning nearly four decades and found that the danger is linked specifically to fried potatoes, not boiled, baked, or mashed ones, which showed only a 5% increased risk.
The study also highlights that replacing fried potatoes with whole grains may reduce diabetes risk by 8–19%, while replacing them with white rice actually increases the risk.
