Mercedes 250d (1992) Goes to Lidl (... Aldi!)

Learn Vital Statistics like:
0-60 up a hill
0-70 with a slight downhill bias, and more!
4th gear up hill from 30-50mph = 12 seconds
50mph-77mph downhill = 11 seconds
2:17 mark, 0-60, some of it downhill as I join the dual carriageway, 17 seconds.

Filmed about 3pm, the car had been driven in the am, and it wasn't 'that cold'. Certainly not a 'cold start' on a cold morning cold. Plus oil would still be up around the block, not a thick lump in the sump. The wrong gearbox had been fitted to the car at some point and with the oversized tyres and rims it gave a high rpm, at 50mph in 5th the engine is turning at 2,500 RPM!
But I agree, it doesn't look good to hit 4K like that without that temp. needle being higher.

Car returns 44 mpg, Not great by todays standards, but back in 1990 when you were getting 26mpg average from a 2litre Cortina, pretty good! (and better with original g/box)

The 5 cylinder engine is smooth and sounds good(great!) (as you can hear) It's up there in the sound stakes with my old 525 TDS 6cylinder BMW, (tho obviously slower as no turbo), and way nicer sounding than my two Volvo 850's which Volvo ran with Audi sourced 5 cylinder engines. They never sounded as balanced, but were strong and long legged (better geared .. but as I say this has been buggered up, likely by the same guy who 'fixed the boot'), and with 140 bhp on tap (for the 850) pulls very well. Every home should have an 850 really, even if only to sit in and adjust the electric heated leather seats on a cold day as you watch Netflix repeats.

No Mercedes were harmed during the making of this video, contrary to worried commentators. Engine ambient temperature was well off 'cold' and oil was still in top part of motor from run 3 hours earlier.
