Farmers in Fiji have returned to the ancient Fijian custom of Solesolevaki .
The Fijian custom is a traditional concept of working together for the common good without expecting an individual reward.
With over a third of the population already living in poverty the islanders returned to the practice during the COVID pandemic. They also received funding from a project set up by IFAD and the Government of Australia to help farmers deal with the COVID pandemic, but it is now helping them to deal with other pressures such as climate change, cyclones and rising fuel prices.
