1. Mukesh Ambani’s Z+ Security

In September 2022, the Government of India upgraded Mukesh Ambani to Z+ category security, the highest civilian protection, following threat assessments by intelligence agencies .

3. Supreme Court’s Ruling

In March 2023, the Supreme Court of India directed that the Ambani family, including Mukesh, Nita, and their others, must be accorded Z+ security both within India and abroad, if required .

Importantly, the cost of this security cover must be borne by the Ambanis themselves, not by taxpayers .

In June 2025, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that decisions on security levels are the responsibility of the Central and State governments, grounded in credible threat assessments. The court dismissed a petition seeking withdrawal of the Z+ cover, and emphasized that there was no new evidence to challenge the existing threat perception .
