A challenging work for brass sextet comprising 2 Bb cornets (or flugel), Eb Tenor Horn, Bb Baritone or Trombone, Bb Euphonium or Baritone, and Bass Trombone or Eb Bass.
Suitable for concert or competition, the music transports the listener to a world of torment and despair from which several spirited attempts at escape can be heard.
The Allegro section depicts these attempts to break out, finding moments of hope and even ecstasy, when it appeared that successful escape was certain. Ultimately however the darkness returns and the listener is dragged inexorably back down into the Netherworld.
