What’s up guys! Welcome back to Dame Untamed. For those of you who are new here, my name is Nikki and this is my adventure channel. Today, we are going on a Whistler road trip to find some of the best waterfalls near Vancouver! Some great waterfalls to add to your bucket list for what to do in Whistler in the summer time!
For those of you who watched my most recent upload, you’ll know I took a trip up to Whistler a few weeks ago to do some exploring. I had a few waterfalls on my bucket list to check off.
I loveeee me a good waterfall! What’s not to love? Really. They are spectacular to look at, and also have a lot of benefits to both the natural and human worlds.
They connect and flow into multiple rivers, leading to water purification. This creates safe and healthy environments for fish and other aquatic animals to live. They recycle waste by flowing over rocks that promote bacterial growth that help to decompose the waste into nutrients. They promote eco-tourism and can be used to create hydro-electric power. They also have a noticeably calming effect on the mind and body, and may even help to reduce stress and improve mood. Though not scientifically proven, it its said that the negative ions produced by some waterfalls are believed to increase serotonin, the hormone that generate feelings of well-being. So whether you think they are pretty to look at or appreciate their benefits, who doesn’t love a good waterfall?
With that said, let’s explore some of Whistler’s beautiful waterfalls!
I decided to drive to the furthest waterfall, and work my way back home towards Squamish as I visited the rest. First stop of the day was Rainbow Falls.
Getting to Rainbow Falls was quite easy. However, I opted out of the hike that’s associated. The Rainbow Falls hike is rated easy, at just 2.8km total. There is a 105m elevation gain and generally takes between 1-1.5 hours to complete the loop. Apparently it’s a bit tricky to get a good view of the falls. General consensus is the falls are nice to look at, but not a must see. I had lots to do while in Whistler and didn’t have a lot of extra time, so I decided to try and find a sneaky back way to the falls. The route I took spat me out atop of Rainbow Falls, where 21 Mile Creek splashes down towards it. I opted to stick around up top as the creek falls themselves were beautiful, but Rainbow Falls down below looks like this. I rate this waterfall a 5/10.
Next was Rans Falls. I was interested in checking out the Whistler Train Wreck Hike, and noticed a waterfall near the wreck site. The Falls are located west of the wreck but wasn’t overly impressed. The waterfall seemed nice, but it was viewable from above which made it hard to see, and found it quite dangerous. You have to walk to the end of a cliff and lean over a bit to get a good view, so I wouldn’t really recommend this waterfall for your waterfall bucket list, especially if you are travelling around with your younger kids. A better option would instead be, to continue east from the train wreck down the river along the “Trash” trail and find Train Wreck Falls. Seems to be a nicer waterfall with better viewpoints. I rate Ran’s Falls a 3/10.
Next on the list was Alexander Falls, and it was definitely something to see! Standing at an impressive 43m, this waterfall is accessible to anyone with a vehicle as you are able to drive right up to the viewpoint. Alexander Falls is located just before Whistler Olympic Park and is a great spot for a picnic on a nice day. I rate this waterfall 7/10.
Lastly, I made my way to Brandywine Falls Provincial Park. This waterfall is must see sight of the Sea to Sky Corridor and arguably the best of Whister’s stunning waterfalls. Standing at 70m, this impressive waterfall can be viewed from an accessible platform directly opposite the falls. This makes a great year round stop to break up your drive along the sea to sky with free parking, dog/ bike friendly picnic areas and a short 5 minute walk to the falls. I rate this waterfall 8/10.
Thanks for watching! Your continued support means the world to me.
