On the 4th of August during the evening, tropical storm Debby intensified into a category 1 hurricane with wind gusts exceeding 80mph on the western coast of Florida. However, areas further inland mostly escaped the worst impacts, especially where I was staying near Orlando. The wind started picking up in the evening of the 4th with occasional distant lightning visible. Fast-forward a few hours at 4am, the rain bands passed overhead bringing more lightning, wind and rain. That was the theme for most of the day on the 5th, with the weather calming down the next day.
