In today’s experiment we have one of our volunteers, Abdullah, show us how to put out a candle with a chemical reaction from household materials. By reacting baking soda with vinegar, we can capture the carbon dioxide that is produced and pour the gas over a flame. We will learn about the chemical reaction that produces carbon dioxide as well as the gases that fires require to burn. For this experiment you’ll need baking soda, vinegar, measuring cups, a plate, a candle, a lighter, a fork, and a piece of cling film. You can skip ahead to 1:02 to jump straight to the experiment!
