Tampere (Swedish: Tammerfors) is a city in Finland and the regional centre of Pirkanmaa, located on the shores of Lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. The city of Tampere has a population of approximately 260,000, and the wider region has a population of approximately 442,000. The Tampere Metropolitan Area Joint Municipal Authority has a population of approximately 424,000. Tampere is the third-largest municipality in Finland and the second-largest urban area with its surrounding municipalities.
Tampere is the largest inland city in the Nordic countries in terms of population.
