The Pit and the Price

(Verse 1)
Israel spoke to Joseph, "Go and see,
If your brothers are safe where they’re meant to be."
So he left the Valley of Hebron behind,
Wandering Shechem, trying to find.
A man found him lost in the open field,
"They went to Dothan," the location revealed.
So Joseph walked on, following the trace,
Unaware of the danger in that place.

(Chorus)
"Here comes the dreamer," the brothers cried,
With nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
Thrown in the cistern, the ground dry and deep,
While the secrets of family are meant to keep.
Oh, the robe is gone, and the darkness falls,
Trapped in the silence of the canyon walls.

(Verse 2)
They plotted to kill him, but Reuben said "No,
Don't shed his blood, just let him go...
Into the pit within the wilderness wild,"
Trying to save the life of the child.
They stripped off his robe, the colors so bright,
And cast him down, out of the light.
Then they sat down to eat, with hearts turned to stone,
Leaving their brother in the dark alone.

Then looking up, a caravan appeared,
Ishmaelites coming with the spices they reared.
Judah said, "What do we gain if he dies?
Let’s sell him instead, let’s make a prize."
Twenty shekels of silver, the coin changed hands,
Taking the dreamer to distant lands.

(Verse 3)
Reuben returned and found the pit bare,
He tore his clothes in a deep despair.
"The boy isn't there! Where can I turn?"
But the others had a lesson they would not learn.
They took the robe and a goat from the pen,
Dipped it in blood to fool fathers and men.
"We found this," they said, with a lie on their breath,
Presenting the token of a violent death.

Jacob recognized the coat he had made,
And a shadow fell that would not fade.
"I will mourn for my son until I die,"
He wept for Joseph with a heavy sigh.
Meanwhile, in Egypt, the story begins,
Sold to the captain, amidst the sins.
