Texas Hog Hunt! This Pig Was as Big as YOUR MOM! Wild Hog Down!

Team Ohio leader and IHO founder Ryan Pledger went down to Texas to try his hand a killin' in the game rich environment. Everything is bigger in Texas. Even the wild pig population, or feral swine as it were. According to KXAN Austin, there are an estimated 2.6 million Hogs in Texas. That's over twice the population of Dallas!! Ryan and his guide, Texas local and IHO member Jacob Bryant, took Ryan through the woods to help him get on some swine. Ryan used his woodsmanship and trusty rifle to let some bullets fly!

Eventually, the metal hit the meat and Ryan was able to get a big nasty hog on the ground. There are so many hog opportunities in Texas in the way of guided hunts or just stomping around public or private land on your own. Guided hunts are offered on ranches, with night vision, from trucks, and even from helicopters! That's right, helicopters!

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife: Economically, wild pigs have the greatest impact on the agricultural industry in the United States. In 2005, researchers estimated that in a single night, one wild pig can cause at least $1,000 in damages to agriculture . In Texas, a 2006 publication reported that wild pigs caused approximately $52 million in agricultural damage annually . More recent studies published in 2016 and 2019 estimate that the annual loss to agriculture in Texas is approximately $118.8 million . Impacts to crops are not limited to direct consumption. Trampling of standing crops and damage to soil from rooting and wallowing activities account for 90-95% of crop damage, in some cases Standing crops are not the only form of agriculture damaged by wild pigs. Wild pigs also cause damage to hay fields, orchards, farming equipment, and fences.

It is no wonder that it is completely legal in the Lonestar state to harvest these pigs any time you want in any frequency. You are doing the land a favor. Probably the hogs too. What a Christmas vacation this turned out to be for this Ohio boy and his family!!
