Rajanakolur is a village of yadgiri district in karnataka. It also serves as a grama panchayat and is part of the rural administrative setup.
Geographically, the village spans an area of about 2779.24 hectares (≈ 27.79 km²).
One of Rajankollur’s most remarkable aspects is its megalithic tombs and dolmens — prehistoric burial structures made of large sandstone slabs.
These megalithic structures are believed to be 2,000 to 3,400 years old (constructed during the Iron Age / late Neolithic to early Historic periods).
The dolmens here are unusual in that their longer side slabs project beyond the shorter ones, which helps prevent the tombs from collapsing inward.
In their earlier extent, the site was nearly 360 meters long, though today much of it has been lost or degraded.
Some dolmens are larger than a human being, measuring over 3.5 meters in length.
The site was studied by Meadows Taylor in 1850 (along with Dr. A. Walker), who compared some of the cromlechs (ring / burial stone structures) of Rajankollur to those in Wales.
While once there may have been over 200 dolmens in the area, today less than 100 remain visible.
The local name for these structures is “Buddara Mane” (in contrast to “Moreyara Mane” used elsewhere in Karnataka)
Because of this, Rajankollur is considered one of the important megalithic heritage sites in South India.
