Placental Abruption (Abruptio Placentae) : Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Pathology and Treatment

Placental Abruption is the premature separation of placenta from its implantation site. It causes antepartum hemorrhage, sudden lower abdominal pain and fetal distress. If left untreated it can result in severe fetomaternal complications. The mild form of abruption is treated conservatively but the severe form requires immediate delivery and maternal resuscitation.
