We are pursuing a new treasure legend in the underwater cities of Ancient Rome: The Tomb and Treasure of Alaric in the Busento River.
According to the legend, the Visigothic King Alaric sacked Rome in 410 AD (Sack of Rome). This was the first time Rome had fallen in 800 years, and an incredible amount of gold, silver, and artwork was loaded onto carts. Alaric died suddenly in Southern Italy (near Cosenza) shortly after the sack. His soldiers temporarily diverted the course of the Busento River so that his tomb would never be found. Alaric and tons of treasure stolen from Rome were buried in the riverbed, and then the river was returned to its original course.
