Autism Occupational Therapy Session | Ep 1

This is our 2.5 year old son Levi who has AuTiSm. We just started Occupational therapy not long ago and we're at his Occupational Therapy Session today. Levi has Sensory Processing Disorder as well as he is very sensory seeking. Because Levi is sensory seeking we set up his Occupational Therapy Sessions prior to his Speech and Feeding Therapy Sessions. This is considered Sensory Integration Therapy.

Sensory Integration Therapy helps provide vital sensory input through fun activities which assists with self regulation. When a child's sensory responses are regulated they are able to concentrate better and in turn learn more effectively. Not only does this help Levi to work on his OT related goals, it assists with preparing him for Speech and Feeding therapy. His mind and body are both calmer, regulated, and ready for the more challenging therapies that are more confined after his OT session.

Without Occupational Therapy prior to Speech and Feeding Therapy, it would be pointless for us. Levi "needs" all the sensory input that OT provides to help get him regulated and ready for his Speech and Feeding sessions.
