A short video showing and explaining how to effectively glue latex/rubber sheet or latex/rubber clothing resulting in a strong secure adhesion with a set seam width.
This is my first ever YouTube video and first time I have created a demonstrative video so please be gentle with me :)
I hope this video comes in handy for those new or experienced in the world of latex garment making or repairs. I have been asked many times how to properly glue latex/rubber for a strong long lasting bond so decided it was time to make a video about it :)
The basic principles of gluing latex/rubber:
1. Clean off all powder residue and allow to dry fully. (If you are doing a repair of a worn garment be sure to remove all oils using a mild de-greaser such as a very weak mix of washing up liquid dissolved in water).
2. Wipe over area to be glued with solvent based thinners and allow to fully uncurl.
3. Apply glue along the edges you wish to glue, allow the latex to fully uncurl. (for best results use a larger spreader on the dull side to ensure proper adhesion).
4. Gently lay the edge along the far edge of the glue seam on the shiny piece of latex, this will ensure a straight and consistent glue seam. (if at any point you peel back the latex to realign you must remember to reapply glue to both edges as when you peel back the glue usually peels off one layer).
5. Pat down the seam with your finger, do not slide your fingers along the seam as it could stretch the top layer.
6. Apply pressure lightly using the seam roller, on the second pass you can apply more pressure to the roller.
7. Clean excess glue from the shiny side of the latex with thinners. Do not push against the seam too hard as you could "un-stick it". Either dust with talc or wipe over the inside glue seam to prevent it sticking to itself, you don't need to remove the excess glue on the inside (dull side).
8. Allow the glue to fully cure, adhesion is instant on contact but it is always best to leave your freshly glued item for around 12 hours before applying any kind of shiner or polish. (It is advisable to rinse the latex before wearing or shining).
9. For best results use a lint free cloth along with Vivishine Latex Polish for an ultra shiny glossy finish.
(Apologies for the slight grainy video, I was using a wi-fi camera :( )
Thanks for watching and all the best on your journey in to making latex clothes or repairing latex garments.

This video is intended as reference material, there is no definitive way gluing should be done and everyone will have their own particular methods they use. This is purely me demonstrating my personal preference when it comes to preparing and gluing latex/rubber sheet.
