More throw back to my youth here. One of my fav bands from the 90's was a band called Hog. This is their kickass tune Get A Job from the album Nothing Sacred. This is take one, single tracked, cold start and it's a little rushed at first. What ya gonna do, I don't get to play much these days....
At any rate, I first heard this song at the end of the movie Black Sheep with the late Chris Farley and David Spade. At the time I was like "FUUUUUUUUUUU, I got to find out who that is!" I caught the end of the song on the radio one time and recorded it onto a tape and was asking all over the place. One day, I'm in a local record store, now long gone, and the dude behind the counter was like those guys in High Fidelity, he knew everything. I gave him a listen on the ol' walkman and he gave the positive ID. Remember, this is the days before google.
I promptly bought the tape....you read it right, the tape and proceeded to wear that fucker out. It broke several times which I was able to fix with masking tape. Sadly it got chewed up something fierce by a tape deck in a car and I hadn't thought about it in years. I caught the end of Black Sheep a few months ago and realized I never replaced that Hog album. I fixed that problem and again it's one of my favs to play along to.
I looked up the dudes involved to find out that Leroy Miller, the singer and guitar player has been pretty busy since Hog. Funny enough, I saw him play with Smash Mouth a couple of years ago and didn't even realize it. Also heard his stuff on TV like on the show Scrubs.
I sent him a quick email making sure he wouldn't have any issues with me doing a tribute and he was like "hell yes!" Doesn't get any cooler than that folks.
So if you haven't, check out the Hog album Nothing Sacred and most certainly check out Leroy's solo stuff!
