On day 1 on The Timber Trail, Pureora Forest I walk from Ngaherenga to Bog Inn Hut (20km). This day is mostly spent in forest, the Pikiariki Ecological Area, podocarp forests, ascending to the high point in the trail, and a view of Lake Taupō. Leaving the bike trail, a track through native forest leads to the historic c1960 Hut, which I have to myself for the very stormy night.
