How to make a crashing witch sugar cookie

Halloween is around the corner and these crashing witch cookies make the perfect treat to celebrate! I initially made these cute little witches for the Go Bo Foundation Bake Sale to benefit childhood cancer and received a request for a tutorial so here it is! Enjoy!!

Items used:
sugar cookie (cookie cutter is "The Cookie Love Plaque by YCCMS" from TheCookieBoxCCS on Etsy)
medium consistency royal icing in white, black and orange
piping bags or icing bottles with tips #2 and #3 (bottles from Sweet Sugarbelle available at Michael's stores)
airbrush machine (Cookie Countess)
airbrush colors (white, purple, brown and green)
edible markers (black, orange and purple)
elite color dust in white (for highlights or you can use white airbrush color)
-scribe tool
-detail brush
-ChocoMaker Shimmer Stars decorating candies

When you're trying to create dimension with royal icing you have to remember to pipe each section at a time and allow for drying time before you can pipe on top or next to it, otherwise you will end up with undefined areas. This time lapse may look like everything was piped at once but in reality I let each section dry in between for at least 5-10 minutes. It all really depends on the consistency of your royal icing, if it's too runny you will need more time in between and if it's a thicker consistency you will need less time. You can place the cookie in a dehydrator or in front of a fan to speed up the process. This will also give an added shine to your royal icing. Find what works best for you. Just remember to be patient and you will get great results!
