Jordan - 14 October 1970 and File
Black and White
The civil war in Jordan in September 1970 gave rise to some of the bloodiest fighting the Middle East has seen. The battle between the Palestinian commandos and the Jordanian Army lasted less than a fortnight, but at the end of it whole areas of Amman, Irbid and other main towns lay in ruins. The Palestinians claimed 20,000 had died in the fighting, but the Jordanian Government estimated the true figure at 700 dead and about 1500 injured.
