When LORD SHIVA Walks Beside You, No Path is Dangerous | Margabandhu Stotram | Appayya Dikshita

श्रीमार्गबन्धु स्तोत्रम् (Śrī Mārga-bandhu Stotram) is a sacred Sanskrit hymn composed by the great saint Āchārya Appayya Dīkṣita, invoking Lord Shiva as the divine protector of one’s path — both spiritual and worldly.
Reciting this Stotra before travel, during uncertain times, or in search of direction brings safety, guidance, clarity, and inner strength.

॥ श्रीमार्गबन्धु स्तोत्रम् ॥

शंभो महादेव देव शिव शंभो महादेव देवेश शंभो ।
शंभो महादेव देव ॥

Salutations to Lord Shambhu — Mahadeva, the Lord of Lords, the eternal source of peace and auspiciousness. O Shiva, be our guide and protector.

फालावनम्रकिरीटं फालनेत्रार्चिषा दग्ध पञ्चेषुकीटम् ।
शूलाहतारातिकूटं शुद्धमर्धेन्दुचूडं भजे मार्गबन्धुम् ॥ १॥

I bow to Shiva, crowned with divine brilliance, whose third eye burns desire and ego, whose trident destroys obstacles, and whose forehead bears the crescent moon — my eternal companion on life’s path.

अङ्गे विराजद्भुजङ्गं अभ्रगङ्गातरङ्गाभिरामोत्तमाङ्गम् ।
ओंकारवाटीकुरङ्गसिद्धसंसेवितं भजे मार्गबन्धुम् ॥ २॥

I adore that Shiva whose form is adorned by serpents, whose hair carries the waves of the Ganga, who wanders in the sacred forest of Omkara, and is worshipped by yogis and sages — the guide of all travelers.

नित्यं चिदानन्दरूपं निह्नताशेषलोकेशवैरिप्रतापम् ।
कार्तस्वरागेन्द्रचापं कृत्तिवासं भजे दिव्यसन्मार्गबन्धुम् ॥ ३॥

I meditate upon the eternal Shiva — the embodiment of blissful consciousness, destroyer of all arrogance, who wielded Mount Meru as His bow, and who wears divine skins — the guardian of the true spiritual path.

कन्दर्पदर्पघ्नमीशं कालकण्ठं महेशं महाव्योमकेशम् ।
कुन्दाभदन्तं सुरेशं कोटिसूर्यप्रकाशं भजे मार्गबन्धुम् ॥ ४॥

I praise the Great Lord who subdued Kamadeva’s pride, whose throat holds the mark of the poison (Neelkantha), whose matted locks are as vast as the sky, whose smile glows brighter than millions of suns.

मन्दारभूतेरुदारं मन्दरागेन्द्रसारं महाघौर्यदूरम् ।
सिन्धूरदूरप्रचारं सिन्धुराजातिधीरं भजे मार्गबन्धुम् ॥ ५॥

I bow to the generous one, nobler than the celestial Mandara tree, stronger than the mighty mountain, closer than breath to Gauri, shining in red brilliance, steady and fearless like the ocean’s king.

अप्पय्ययज्वेन्द्रगीतं स्तोत्रराजं पठेद्यस्तु भक्त्या प्रयाणे ।
तस्यार्थसिद्धिं विधत्ते मार्गमध्येऽभयं चाशुतोषी महेशः ॥ ६॥

Whoever chants this divine hymn composed by Appayya Dikshita with devotion before a journey — Maheshwara, the easily-pleased Lord, grants him success, fulfillment, and fearless travel.
