The play follows the last days and the historic moments in the life of the Ruler of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, (1750–1799).
Based on a manuscript written by Tipu Sultan in his own handwriting where he recorded some of his dreams from 1785 to 1798, Girish Karnad weaves his magic and brings these dreams alive through the eyes of Indian court historian, Mir Hussain Ali Khan Kirmani and British Oriental scholar, Colonel Colin Mackenzie.
