is a tree of the guava tribe (Myrtaceae) that is utilized as a source of eucalyptus oil (cajuput oil). The oil is extracted (usually steam distilled) mainly from the leaves and twigs. It gets its name from the color of its stems, which are indeed white. Eucalyptus is known in Malay as gălam, in Ternate as bajule, in Seram as sakelan, and in Ambon by various names, namely kilam, elan and ilan."
The plant mainly grows well in eastern Indonesia and northern Australia, however it can also be cultivated in other areas that have a clear dry season.
The potential of eucalyptus plants in Indonesia is quite large starting from the Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi, Bali and Papua regions in the form of eucalyptus natural forests. While those in East Java, Central Java and West Java arein the form of eucalyptus plantations.
Another benefit of eucalyptus oil is that it relieves nasal congestion. Cajuput, which is used as a base for making eucalyptus oil, contains compounds that are decongestants. This compound can relieve throat and nasal congestion.
