Moong dal dosa is a healthy, protein-rich, and quick dish that can be served as a snack or light meal. It doesn't require fermentation like traditional dosa.
Given below are the recipe details of Moong Dal Dosa:
Required materials
Moong dal (yellow or green skinned): 1 cup (soaked for about 4-6 hours)
Rice flour: 2-3 tbsp (optional, for crispiness)
Green chillies: 2-3 (according to taste)
Ginger: 1 inch piece
Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves: a little (optional, finely chopped)
Salt: to taste
Water: as needed (for grinding and adjusting the consistency of the batter)
Ghee or oil: for cooking the dosa
Method of preparation
Soaking the lentils: Wash the moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 4 to 6 hours.
Prepare the batter: Drain the soaked lentils (reserving some for grinding), put them in a mixer jar. Add the green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander leaves (if using), and salt.
Grind: Adding water little by little, grind the lentils into a smooth and thick batter. The consistency of the batter should be like that of a regular dosa batter—not too thick, not too thin.
Adding the rice flour: Transfer the ground batter to a bowl. If you'd like a crispier dosa, add the rice flour and whisk well.
To make the dosa: Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) or pan. Grease the pan with a little oil or ghee (or sprinkle a few drops of water and wipe it with a clean cloth).
Spreading: Pour a ladle of batter into the center of the pan and spread it thinly in a circular motion.
Cook: Drizzle a little ghee or oil around the edges of the dosa. Over medium heat, cook the dosa until golden and crisp.
Serving: When the dosa is cooked, fold it and remove it from the pan.
Serve hot and crispy moong dal dosa with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or sambar. You can also make a masala dosa by filling it with potato masala.
