This is from an old record labelled "Serious Accordion."
On the record cover Lennart Warmell writes: "Whoever wrote that 'the accordion is little more than a musical toy,' should be exposed to the sounds of Mogens Ellegaard's chromatic free bass accordion. The modern concert accordion is like a portable miniature reed-organ - immenslely flexible when it comes to dynamics, rhythm, tonal expression & finger technique." According to Wikepedia, in his younger years, Ellegaard competed at the World Championships on a stradella accordion, & when he heard & saw all the free bass accordionists winning the prizes (which they still do) he decided to switch to the new system.
This exuberant little Scarlatti piece is performed by the great Danish accordionist Mogens Ellegaard. He plays it beautifully on his free-bass or "bassetti" (ie. no chord buttons) Hohner Gola (which are now worth $60,000). I
was also told that he won't even touch the old piano keyboard style right hand accordions, but prefers the chromatic buttons. I really wish I had a free bass accordion, of course, I'd never be this good.
Baroque music transcribes beautifully to this instrument, which should be more widely accepted than it is.
The Baroque era composers would have loved to compose for the free-bass accordion with its soft & rich, woodwind sound.
I hope you enjoy.
God bless you!
Paul
