Do it yourself: Boyle's Law Data Collection

This is a new video concept that I'm trying out for viewers - DIY physics. Let me know if this is a type of video that you want more of or if it is no use.


This is a video showing a close up of the pressure gauge and volume scale in the Boyle's Law experiment. This enables students to collect the data directly from the scales without relying on someone else to interpret the scales for them. What is shown in this video:

• The apparatus.
• Annotated scales as they appear in the data collection stage.
• The units of the scales. And which pressure scale to focus on.

• The useable pressure range.
• Video of the pressure and volume scales shown simultaneously.


As students watch the video they are instructed to pause at systematic pressure readings to take the corresponding volume reading. Students are not instructed on how to tabulate the data or how to analyse it - please ensure you've covered this with students prior to setting the task.
