Trump paused tariffs on Canada and Mexico until March 4th

In a dramatic, last-minute move, the Trump administration agreed Monday to pause sweeping tariffs on Mexico for a month while the two sides hammer out an agreement on security and trade, the U.S. and Mexican leaders announced.

President Claudia Sheinbaum said on X that in a “good conversation” with President Donald Trump, Mexico committed to rushing 10,000 national guard troops to its border to try to block the flow of drugs into the United States — especially fentanyl.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday in a social media post that the United States had agreed to pause threatened tariffs for “at least 30 days.” The announcement followed two phone calls with President Donald Trump on Monday and came after the United States and Mexico reached a similar agreement. In a tweet, Trudeau said he had a good call with Trump and will appoint a fentanyl czar, and implement the $900 million border plan that his government announced in December.
