One of the band's final great songs, this was the B-side to the "Afterglow" single released in March 1969...a single which was suddenly released by the band's management to capitalize on their breakup. Steve Marriott left to join Humble Pie. In his place, the remaining three guys (Lane, McLagan, and Jones) brought in Rod Stewart (vocals) and Ronnie Wood (guitar), eventually rebranding as simply "Faces."
"Wham Bam..." is one of Small Faces' hardest rockers with a punchy sound and fiery vocal delivery by Marriott. Perhaps Bowie's use of the "Wham Bam..." phrase in "Suffragette City" is a tribute to Marriott, who was a close friend of Bowie during their teenage years.
