Explicación en castellano de todo lo que sabemos sobre los Balrogs de la Tierra Media según lo que se nos cuenta en El Señor de los Anillos, El Silmarillion y los demás textos, cartas y escritos de J.R.R. Tolkien. Los Balrogs eran demonios de poder, Maiar corrompidos al servicio de Melkor, Morgoth, el Señor Oscuro. Aparecieron por primera vez en Utumno, luego en Angband, ahuyentaron a Ungoliant y se convirtieron en el terror de los Elfos. Gothmog mató a Fëanor, Fingon y Ecthelion. La mayoría murieron en la Guerra de la Cólera pero uno escapó a Moria, donde estuvo durante la Segunda y Tercera Edad. Podían usar magia, iban armados con látigos flamígeros, primero había cientos y miles pero al final no fueron más de siete en total.
