From Princeton to Playas: Phelps Dodge from East to West with Katie Benton-Cohen, PhD
Recorded - Saturday, February 10, 2024, 11:00 am - MST
Sponsored by the Arizona Historical Society
Dr. Katie Benton-Cohen will discuss her ongoing research on Phelps Dodge and the Dodge family during this free presentation. The talk will focus on their impact in two dramatically different places, Princeton and Playas, to consider the broad reach of the company and the family. She also hopes to learn from community members with their own memories and experiences in Playas and its connections to Bisbee.
Dr. Benton-Cohen teaches history at Georgetown University and is the author of two books, including "Borderline Americans: Racial Division and Labor War in the Arizona Borderlands," which is a history of Cochise County. She was also the historical adviser for the film "Bisbee'17." She is currently writing a history of the Phelps Dodge family and company and will be living in Bisbee with her family while she is on sabbatical in 2024.
