What is Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS)?

It is said that up to a third of all strokes in people aged under 50 could be due to antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). We invited Professor Anisur Rahman on behalf of APS Support UK to tell us more about this rare syndrome and ask what connection it has to stroke.

Professor Anisur Rahman became interested in autoimmune rheumatic diseases after completing a Ph.D. on systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome and now has a research group looking at those diseases. He is vice-chair of the charity APS UK.

APS Support UK are the only UK charity dedicated to supporting anyone affected by APS and aims to achieve earlier diagnosis and better treatment by raising awareness of the condition and helping fund research.
