Charles Perrault was a French writer and poet born in the middle of the seventeenth century. After his election to the prestigious Académie Française, he challenged the preeminence of Ancient authors in the ongoing Académie feud of the “Ancients and Moderns,” and pioneered the genre of the fairy tale by recording and modernizing folk tales like Cinderella (see Thornwillow's edition), Puss in Boots, Sleeping Beauty, and many more.
