Hiking Morrow Mountain State Park - Gem of the Piedmont!

Looking for FANTASTIC winter hiking? Morrow Mountain State Park is absolutely it! This was my first visit to Morrow Mountain and I was quite thrilled with my experience here, especially for it being a fairly local area to me. It being winter, the leaves were all off of the trees and views abounded. I saw plenty of wildlife with a total of 6 deer crossing my path throughout the day. The climbs up the three summits I completed was challenging, but all quite rewarding, especially Sugarloaf. I visited mid-week and while there were a few people around, it was not crowded at all.

I combined multiple trails to extend my hike and completed all of these trails as one big hike, beginning at the Sugarloaf Trailhead.

📍 Morrow Mountain State Park is located in Albermarle, North Carolina and is part of the Uwharrie Mountain Range, some of the world's oldest mountains. Hiking, Camping, Fishing, Horseback Riding, Museums, History - there truly is something for everyone here.
