In The Sims 3, Tattoos were introduced in a base game update released alongside The Sims 3: Ambitions. Without cheats, you can only access Tattoos in Create a Sim or the Spa. The Sims 3: Ambitions also added Salons as a community lot, where Sims can get Makeovers or get a Tattoo. The NPC Tattoo Artist will start using a Tattoo Machine on one arm and a Create a Sim will open, allowing you to choose from a great number of Tattoos available. Every Tattoo can be modified in scale and also in opacity. Sims can choose any color they like using the Color Wheel. You can place a Tattoo on the Middle and Lower Back, Shoulder, Bicep, Forearm and Wrist, for both hands, Chest and Belly Button. You can layer up to five Tattoos on every part of the body. Final place where Sims can get a Tattoo is on their ankles. Sims can also use The Digital Tattoo Applicator. To offer and receive Tattoos, but also to Tattoo Self for §50
Sims 4
In The Sims 4, Tattoos were a base game feature available in Create a Sim But Patch 176 and The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies extended the tattoo placements and added extra options for tattoos, expanding them completely. Sims can now open or visit a Tattoo Parlor and request tattoos from a Tattoo Artist. Sims can choose one available tattoo at a time on any part of their body without entering CAS. Sims can also completely customize and place tattoos on any part of their body. You can add up to five layers. You can also use stamps and change the size and rotation. You can make tattoos with stencils and choose any color from the color wheel and paint it on any part of the body. You can also paint a whole body part in any color you like and then use different brushes to customize it to your liking. You can also place tattoos on the lower back, the upper back, the stomach, chest, face and lower and upper right or left arm. Sims can also dedicate a Tattoo to another Sim, Touch up a Tattoo or remove Tattoos. Tattooing is a skill that Sims can learn, by attending classes, practicing on sketch pads, getting mentored, or simply tattooing other Sims, or practicing on them.
