I've had a bit of a hard time explaining the sentences. It wasn't easy to exactly capture the meaning in English, but I hope that I made it clear enough.
I think these expressions don't translate literally into English but you could still convey the meaning. But that's what makes learning these expressions worthwhile. They're very useful in conversation and make you more fluent when you use them correctly.
