AAC Block Masonry Work refers to the construction process using Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks, which are lightweight, precast building materials offering excellent thermal insulation and fire resistance. They are widely used in modern construction due to their efficiency and sustainability.
🔧 Key Steps in AAC Block Masonry Work
1. Surface Preparation
Ensure the foundation or base is level and clean.
Dampen the surface if it’s too dry to avoid water absorption from the mortar.
2. Material Requirements
AAC Blocks (usually 600 x 200 x 100/150/200 mm)
Thin-bed mortar or block adhesive (cement-based)
Tools: Trowel, spirit level, rubber mallet, notched trowel, measuring tape, mason's line
3. Mixing Mortar
Use only ready-mix AAC block adhesive or a thin jointing mortar.
Mix as per manufacturer’s recommendation (usually water + powder in 1:4 ratio).
Ensure lump-free and uniform consistency.
4. Laying the Blocks
Start from corners and move inward.
Apply adhesive using a notched trowel for uniform thickness (3–5 mm).
Lay blocks in stretcher bond with proper alignment.
Tap blocks gently with a rubber mallet to level.
5. Jointing & Leveling
Maintain 2–5 mm vertical and horizontal joints.
Use a spirit level to check for horizontal and vertical alignment.
Remove excess adhesive from joints immediately.
6. Curing
Minimal curing is required.
Spray water lightly 2–3 times a day for 2–3 days if required, especially in hot climates.
7. Reinforcement (if needed)
Install reinforcement bars in wall grooves for walls above certain heights or for seismic areas.
✅ Advantages of AAC Block Masonry
Lightweight (1/3 the weight of clay bricks)
Faster construction
Good thermal and sound insulation
Pest and fire resistant
Environmentally friendly
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
Using traditional cement-sand mortar (not recommended)
Improper joint thickness
Skipping surface leveling
Not checking plumb or level during work
Over-saturating with water during curing
