RV There Yet? Our Wild Ride to South Dakota

We packed up the RV, loaded snacks like we were fleeing civilization, and set off on our grand adventure to South Dakota for Kim’s family reunion. What could possibly go wrong?

Night one: Boondocking. That’s code for “parking in the middle of nowhere with no hookups and pretending it’s fun.” No generator meant no AC... but hey, at least the stars were pretty while we sweated through our clothes!

Day two: The sun decided to personally attack us. Temps soared, spirits dipped. We lost shore power twice—because why not add a little spice? The RV became a mobile sauna, and we strongly considered converting to prairie life and abandoning the vehicle altogether.

But we kept going. Because nothing says "family bonding" like sweating together in an overheated vehicle.

Finally, we made it. We rolled into South Dakota tired, slightly crispy, but victorious. The reunion was full of laughter, stories, hugs, and enough food to fuel another 1,000 miles.

It wasn’t a perfect trip, but it was perfectly ours. And that’s what makes it a memory we’ll never forget.
