Shimano was the first to introduce electronic MTB shifting with its Di2 technology back in 2014. It used wires, it was expensive, and it never gained mainstream success. Since then, SRAM has cornered the wireless electronic drivetrain segment. Leaving many riders to ask— will Shimano ever revamp its Di2 offering to be competitive once again?
Well you know what they say—great things take time. (Especially when you're talking about Shimano ;)
Over 10 years later, Shimano has finally come out with its new XTR Di2 drivetrain. It's wireless, it's fast, and built for durability. Fortunately for us, we had the opportunity to get early samples of the drivetrain and new XTR brakes 6 months before they launched. The goal was to log a ton of ride time and see how things hold up after a proper testing period. And to find out if Shimano has created a drivetrain that will once again position them as a key player in the electronic drivetrain segment.
