Penitents in San Fernando, Pampanga conduct a reenactment of the Passion of the Christ on Good Friday, April 7. Ruben Enaje, who has been portraying Jesus Christ, had himself nailed and hung on the cross for the 34th time this year.

Flagellation and crucifixion are discouraged by the Catholic Church. Most of the Philippines' Catholic faithful observe the Holy Week through prayer and fasting.
