Dating back to around 1870, This English Zither/Minstrel Banjo dates back to the dawning days of the instrument, or at least to its modern form. The African origins of the banjo dates back many hundreds of years, with the earliest written account of one being in 1621, and its origin obviously dating much earlier than that. But by the 1830s it was appropriated from slaves in America and used first in shows that would only serve to belittle them, portraying them as caricatures instead of humans,
This banjo survived very well, considering its age, but still needed a LOT of work, and that what we're doing here today, Follow along as I learn how to use a lathe, and make all the missing elements in this ancient instrument and fumble to try and play it.
