During the Austro-Hungarian era, the construction of the Naval Arsenal in the late 19th century marked the beginning of Tivat’s industrial and maritime importance. This military shipyard became the town’s beating heart for more than a century, shaping its identity and population.
In the 21st century, Tivat underwent a remarkable rebirth. The old naval base was transformed into Porto Montenegro, a luxury marina and residential complex that redefined the Adriatic yachting scene. Today, Porto Montenegro is one of Europe’s most prestigious marinas — a symbol of elegance, wealth, and architectural harmony. It attracts yacht owners, travelers, and investors from all over the world, yet still preserves the calm rhythm of Montenegrin coastal life.
Beyond its modern glamour, Tivat retains its authentic Mediterranean soul. Local markets, fishermen at dawn, the sound of church bells, and festivals like “Bocanska fiesta” remind visitors of its roots. Nature thrives here — from the flower-rich Botanical Garden, planted by sailors bringing exotic species from afar, to the emerald Island of Flowers (Ostrvo cvijeća) and the untouched Vrmac hill, offering panoramic views over the bay.
Today, Tivat stands as a bridge between past and future — between the simplicity of a coastal town and the sophistication of a global destination. It is a place where the scent of pine trees meets the sound of jazz from the marina, and where every sunset feels like a meeting of time and eternity.
Tivat, mali primorski grad u srcu Bokokotorskog zaliva, jedan je od najmlađih na crnogorskom primorju, ali njegova istorija seže daleko u prošlost. Nekada skromno ribarsko naselje okruženo maslinjacima i citrusima, danas je Tivat moderan, kosmopolitski grad koji spaja tradiciju mora i duh savremenog luksuza.
Veruje se da ime grada potiče od ilirske kraljice Teute, koja je vladala ovim prostorima u 3. veku pre nove ere. Tokom vekova, Tivat je bio pod uticajem Venecije, Austro-Ugarske i kasnije Jugoslavije. Presudan trenutak u njegovom razvoju bio je kraj 19. veka, kada je Austro-Ugarska izgradila Mornarički arsenal – vojno brodogradilište koje je decenijama bilo simbol Tivta i glavni pokretač njegovog razvoja.
U 21. veku grad je doživeo potpunu transformaciju. Na mestu starog Arsenala iznikao je Porto Montenegro, luksuzna marina i naselje koje je Tivtu donelo svetsku slavu. Porto je postao sinonim za eleganciju i rafiniranost – marina u kojoj se sidre jahtе iz celog sveta, ali i mesto koje čuva duh Mediterana: mirne večeri, razgovore uz vino i šum mora ispod borova.
Iako je moderan i dinamičan, Tivat nije izgubio svoju dušu. Na pijaci se i dalje prodaje domaće maslinovo ulje, ribari isplovljavaju u zoru, a gradske fešte i manifestacije poput “Bokeške noći” oživljavaju staru tradiciju Boke. Tu su i prirodna bogatstva – Botanička bašta, zasađena egzotičnim biljkama koje su pomorci donosili sa svojih putovanja, Ostrvo cvijeća sa starim manastirom, i brdo Vrmac, s koga se pruža jedan od najlepših pogleda na zaliv.
Danas je Tivat grad koji spaja prošlost i budućnost – jednostavnost i glamur, tradiciju i inovaciju. Mesto gde miris borova susreće tonove džeza iz marine, a svaki zalazak sunca postaje uspomena koja se pamti zauvek.
