Cottage in the Woods – Finding Beauty in a Winter Wonderland

Join me and my dog Jasper as we trek to our cottage in the woods for the first time during the dead of winter. We spend two nights trying out our 3-season cottage in this very cold 4th season and enjoy finding beauty in all things big and small in a winter wonderland.

We bought the cottage in the summer of 2020 to give us a spot to escape the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, but it's only a 3-season cottage, meaning it's not well insulated and there's no running water in winter. We'd visited a few times during the winter of 2020-21, but not in overly cold weather and never overnight. This would be the first attempt.

It was quite the slog getting into the cottage as the road isn't plowed, but we made it! It was -30'C the whole time we were there, and while it took a while to get the chill out of the air upon our arrival, it was pretty cozy once we got the fireplace roaring.

We spent the days exploring the surroundings and admiring nature's beauty. If you take the time, you can find some truly amazing scenes in the simplest of places. It was quite the humbling experience, something I think we should all take the time to do regularly. We're so tied to our gadgets and technology that we too often forget what really matters.
