🔥 Building a Stone Fireplace From Scratch – Week 1 Progress 🔥
This week, I finally started working on one of the most exciting parts of my stone cabin project: the construction of a brand-new handcrafted stone fireplace. In this video, I take you through the very first steps of the build, from preparing the base to shaping and laying the stones one by one.
As an architect who loves traditional craftsmanship, I’m focusing on creating a fireplace that is not only functional but also fully in harmony with the natural, rustic character of my cabin. I started by removing the unstable old chimney, cleaning the work area, and preparing a solid foundation that can safely support the new structure.
You’ll see every detail of the process — mixing mortar, adjusting the stone arrangement, strengthening the wall behind it, and planning the airflow system to make sure the fireplace burns clean and efficiently. My goal is to create a long-lasting, timeless centerpiece that will bring warmth to the cabin for decades.
Throughout this week’s progress, I also share the challenges of working with raw stone, the techniques I use to fit irregular stones together, and the design ideas that will come to life in the next steps. There’s still a lot ahead: installing the firebox, building the chimney, designing the mantel, and finishing the exterior stonework — but this is how it all begins.
